Major honour for Leona Maguire who becomes the first Irish golfer to be inducted into Women’s Golf Coaches Association Players Hall of Fame

Las Vegas ceremony next month for Leona Maguire

CAVAN’S Leona Maguire has been selected by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) to be inducted into the Players Hall of Fame, the first Irish golfer to be so honoured.

The Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place at Planet Hollywood Resort in Las Vegas on Monday, December 9. Maguire and Caroline Westrup will become the 88th and 89th members of the WGCA Players Hall of Fame.

Leona (29) has been a member of the LPGA since 2020 and has collected 21 top 10 finishes and two wins, while appearing in three Solheim Cups.  Maguire has also represented Ireland in the 2016, 2020 and 2024 Olympics.

A graduate of Duke University, North Carolina, in 2022, she became the first — and, to date, only — Irish woman to win on the LPGA Tour in the LPGA Drive On Championship in Florida. In 2024 she became the first Irish woman to win on the Ladies European Tour in the Aramco Team Series in London.

With a score of 61 in the final round of the 2021 Evian Championship, Maguire holds the record for the lowest-ever score in the final round of any major championship (men or women) and the joint lowest round in any round of a major.

During the 2021 Solheim Cup, she broke the all-time rookie points record in either the Solheim or Ryder Cup with a total of 4.5.
