Linfield Women bowed out of the Avenir Sports All Island Cup following a quarter-final defeat to Wexford Women at Midgley Park.

The visitors moved in front after 12 minutes when Ceola Bergin kept her composure to beat Lauren Currie with a right-foot finish.

But the Blues responded positively to level a couple of minutes later when Keri Halliday found the corner of the net only for Freya De Mange to restore Wexford’s lead immediately from the kick-off with a stunning strike from the centre spot.

And Wexford extended their advantage moments from the break when, deep into first stoppage time, Áine Walsh powered a thumping right foot finish into the roof of the net.

To their credit Linfield upped the pressure in the second half, and duly reduced the deficit just after the hour when Halliday bagged her second of the afternoon with a cracking finish.

However they couldn’t find a way back into the game and, indeed, might have slipped two goals down again when Della Doherty rattled the crossbar in the closing minutes.
