Belfast athlete Rebecca Rossiter returns in top form to win Dublin 3000m event

Rebecca Rossiter

AHEAD of the Belfast Marathon, Morton Stadium in Dublin hosted an Irish Milers meet on the brand new blue Mondo surface.  For Rebecca Rossiter, it was her first outing over 3000m in quite some time.

Rebecca, currently on a gap year before university, featured in Local Women Sport some months ago.

Running her own race, she allowed the battle at the front to unfold before launching her own bid for victory.  Showing encouraging speed, she took the lead and won the race in a time of 9:48.68. Rebecca now runs for CNDR track club in Belfast.

Behind her, finishing second was Emer McKee of Willowfield Temperance Harriers in 9:49.52.  Emer set the World Best time over 5K for a 12 year old back in 2021 and is now 15.

Third was NI and Ulster Novice Cross Country champion, Amy Greene (Finn Valley AC) in 9:49.79.

Next up is the Irish Milers meet at the Mary Peters Trust in Belfast on Saturday, May 11 where NI women will be hoping for more success.  Spectator entry is free.
