THE eagerly awaited NIWFA 2024 Championship season got underway this evening.
Sion Swifts, who dropped out of the Premiership last season, were the comfortable 6-1 victors against last years Championship runners up Ballyclare Comrades.
Bangor Ladies also won by the same score-line against newly promoted St Oliver Plunkett thanks to goals from Toni Stewart, Janine Jess, Evarose Martin and Amber Dempster (three).
St James Swifts came from behind to defeat newbies Camlough Rovers 3-2 meanwhile Comber Rec defeated Foyle Belles 3-1.
Finally at the Ballymena Showgrounds the Sky Blues were the 2-1 winners of a feisty affair which saw a player from each side sent off in the first half.
