DOWN were convincing winners over Cavan in their Ulster Ladies U16 Championship Round 1 game at Burren, 5-13 to 3-9.
The victory was built on a dominant display, that included a devastating spell of three goals in the space of five minutes either side of half time.
The game started evenly enough with the scores level at 1-4 each up until the 25th fifth minute, but then Collie Campbell’s impressive Down side hit their purple patch and found the back of the net twice in quick succession before half time.
Down kept up the pace and netted another goal just after the break. The home side kept the scoreboard ticking over, with some lovely taken scores, and added another goal to their total to lead 5-13 (28) to 1-6 (9) with five minutes remaining. Much to their credit, Cavan never gave up and got two goals and three points before the final whistle to close the gap to 10.
A fantastic display by Down, who were magnificent on the day.
