Glentoran exit the All Island Cup in 3-1 home defeat by Bohemians… report and pics

GLENTIRAN Women’s All-Island Cup campaign came to an end on Saturday afternoon following a 3-1 defeat to Bohemians at Blanchflower Stadium.

Despite enjoying long spells of possession and creating several good chances, the Glens were undone by a pair of almost identical headers from defender Lisa Murphy and a moment of brilliance from Hannah O’Brien.

Murphy opened the scoring after just five minutes, rising highest to power home from a left-wing corner.

And it got worse for Glentoran eight minutes later when O’Brien darted past two defenders on the edge of the box before smashing a stunning strike in off the underside of the crossbar.

Glentoran responded well and halved the deficit just three minutes later.

Emily Wilson broke forward at pace down the left before cutting the ball back for Kascie Weir, who calmly slotted home to make it 2-1.

Chances came and went for both Wilson and Weir early in the second half, but the Glens were punished for their wastefulness on 56 minutes when Murphy struck again – this time heading in from another corner to restore Bohemians’ two-goal cushion.

Despite a flurry of late substitutions and continued pressure in the final third, the Glens couldn’t find a way back into the contest and exit the competition at the group stage.
