CRUSADERS Strikers and Derry City Women picked up three points apiece as the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership continued.
Crusaders moved to the top of the table with a 4-1 defeat of Larne Women at Seaview. They are three points ahead of Glentoran who have played two games fewer.
Sophie Gargan opened the scoring for the Crues as early as the third minute before, midway through the first half, Jessica Rea doubled on the counter-attack.
Substitute Lillie Horner added a third nine minutes from time with a long range finish past Leanne Glass but Larne hit back on 90 minutes when Erin Montgomery lifted the ball over the head of debutant keeper Sophie Glover.
However Maureen Quinn restored the Strikers’ three goal cushion in stoppage time.
Derry City made it two wins on the bounce with victory over Lisburn Ladies at the Brandywell.
Scoreless at the break, Shania McMonagle bagged what turned out to be the only goal of the game on 64 minutes with a close range header that just evaded the grasp of keeper Zara Magure to secure the points for City and a move into third spot in the table.
The weekend action continues on Saturday afternoon with the third and concluding round of Women’s All Island Cup group games – and it’s all to play for with the top two in each section progressing to the knock-out stages.
In Group A, Linfield Women travel to Dalymount Park to face Bohemians while Lisburn Rangers are also in Dublin as they take on Shamrock Rovers at the Tallaght Stadium in Group B.
Glentoran Women – who are already guaranteed a place in the last eight – will embark on an even longer trip with a journey to Limerick to face Treaty United at Markets Field in Group D..
Cliftonville Ladies are the only NIFL side at home as they welcome Peamount United to Solitude (kick-off 5pm) in Group C. The draw for the quarter and semi-finals will be conducted at Solitude at the conclusion of the Reds’ game.
