LAST out of the pot, Strabane Athletic v Craigavon City looks the tie of the first round proper in this season’s NIWFA Local Women Sport Super Cup.
The NIWFA Barclays Division 1 pairing were the final names to emerge from today’s (Wednesday, May 14) first round draw at the Hilton Hotel in Belfast, following the completion of the preliminary round.
Fourteen teams will battle it out for second round places with the seven winners joining nine Championship teams in round two.
The first round draw features three newcomers to the NIWFA leagues with giantkilling potential as West Belfast side Newhill, from the Pathway division, face Lurgan’s Oxford Sunnyside, four tiers above them in Division 4; Carryduff, also in the Pathway, host Derry’s Maiden City who are six levels above them in Division 2 with a similar gap between Castle Ladies from Bangor, in their debut Pathway season, away to Division 2 Coleraine.
Full first round draw: Newhill v Oxford Sunnyside, Lisbellaw United v Civil Service, Carryduff v Maiden City, Antrim Town v Carrick Rangers Falcons, Valley Rangers v Ballynahinch, Coleraine v Castle Ladies, Strabane Athletic v Craigavon City.
Matches to be completed by Monday, June 23.
The second round will see nine clubs from the NIWFA Championship enter the draw, including holders Ballymoney United alongside Ballymena United, St James Swifts, Greenisland, Bangor FC, Sion Swifts, Mid-Ulster, Belfast Celtic and Ballyclare Comrades.
Second round ties must be completed by Monday, July 7.
