MALONE Women’s Rugby Club has made history by securing a place in the All-Ireland Junior Cup semi-finals. On Sunday, November 24, they face Tuam/Oughterard at home in Gibson Park (kick-off 2.30pm), marking a significant milestone for the club.
The team had an impressive performance in the competition’s first round, with a convincing 46-14 victory over Mullingar. This momentum has fuelled their aspirations to progress further and potentially claim the coveted All-Ireland title.
A club spokesperson expressed their pride in the team’s achievements: “Sunday will be a great opportunity for our women to test themselves, having already qualified for the AIL semi-final. Their dedication and hard work under coach Shane’s guidance have been instrumental in their improvement. It’s particularly rewarding to see players who have come through our youth system now contributing to the senior squad. We wish our ladies the best of luck and urge everyone to come out and support them in red!”
Senior Ulster Women player and Malone team captain, Peita McAlister, echoed the sentiment: “The excitement within the team is incredible. This is a historic moment for us, and we’re ready to embrace the challenge. We know it won’t be easy, but we’re determined to give our best and showcase the hard work we’ve put in. We’re grateful for the support of our coaches and fans, and we hope to make them proud.”
As Malone Women prepare for this crucial match, the club and its supporters are rallying behind the team, hoping to witness another chapter in their remarkable journey.
