Women on Water festival returns to Cultra with a special invite to novice sailors

Taking part in last year's Women on the Water Festival

THIS May, the Royal Yachting Association of Northern Ireland is running a Women On Water festival aimed at giving women their first opportunity at boating.

The Women On Water Festival will be hosted at Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club in Cultra on Sunday, May 12.

This Royal Yachting Association of Northern Ireland event gives women the opportunity to get involved in sailing and boating for the first time and it is open to any women above the age of 18.

On the day, attendees will get the opportunity to try their hand on a huge range of boats, from small dinghies and powerboats, to larger yachts. It’s also a great opportunity for those involved to meet like-minded women which often become their friends for life.

In the past, women involved have enthused about the fun they had on the day.

Lara Sunday from Donaghadee said: “There were women from all over Ireland there. Women who had been sailing their entire life and then newbies like myself – there was just a really nice mix.

“Sometimes you think you can’t start things, especially when you’re later in life. It made me think that this is something I can actually do.”
