Eva Gaston scored hat-trick

AN exhilarating penultimate weekend in the EY Hockey League Division 1 wasn’t short of drama.

In the Women’s EYHL, Loreto finally secured their second league title on the bounce with a well fought away win to UCC.

Catholic Institute and UCD played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in Rosbrien, with the home side securing the bonus point shootout. The result sees UCD complete their turnaround to climb into the Champions Trophy Play-Off places while Institute go two points clear in third.

Pembroke Wanders nabbed a tight 1-0 win at home to Ards, securing them place in the topflight next season and condemning Ards to relegation.

In the Women’s EYHL2, Muckross squeezed past a stubborn Cork Harlequins side in Pool A.

In Pool B, Queen’s University showed no sluggishness from their long journey to Cork, beating Ashton 7-0 to secure top spot, with Eva Gaston scoring three, while Lurgan held Corinthian to a draw to boost their confidence going into the Play-Offs.
