Victories for Armagh Royal, Lurgan JHS, Dromore HS and Rainey Endowed in a festive feast of Stevenson Cup hockey finals action

Royal School Armagh were crowned Stevenson Cup champions with a narrow 1-0 win over Portadown College.

FOUR sides lifted silverware at Havelock Park, Banbridge as the inaugural Stevenson Cup competitions came to a close.

Lurgan Junior High School, Rainey Endowed, Dromore High School and Royal School Armagh all saw cup success following wins on finals day.

The day got underway with the U14 Stevenson Bowl as Lurgan Junior High School took on Dromore High School.

With Dromore having had most of the early chances, it was Lurgan JHS who took the lead against the run of play.

Lucy Wilson was left unmarked at the penalty spot before she was picked out with a pass from the byline with the midfielder firing into the bottom corner.

However, just a minute into the second half Dromore drew level with a strike from Alex McClintock, setting up nervy third and fourth quarters for the two sides.

Level at full-time, penalty run-ins were required to separate the two sides with Lurgan Junior High School coming out as winners with a 5-3 shootout victory.

In the Senior Bowl, Dromore High School were once again involved but this time were successful as they beat Foyle College 3-1.

It was Foyle College who struck first as Lucy Thompson gave her side the lead with 24 minutes on the clock.

However, three goals from Amber Murphy, Kate McCambley and captain Cliona Cochrane turned the game on its head to give Dromore a 3-1 lead.

With no response from their final opposition, the side were crowned champions of the Stevenson Bowl.

In the U14 Stevenson Cup, Rainey Endowed overcame Banbridge Academy to be crowned champions.

After a tight opening first quarter, the deadlock was finally broken just three minutes into the second.

Rainey number 10 Lexi Scott got the opening goal for her side from open play with the strike proving to be the difference between the two sides.

Despite a late period of pressure from Banbridge Academy, they were unable to find a way through the stern Rainey defence as the game ended 1-0 to the side from Mid-Ulster.

The final game of the day saw Royal School Armagh crowned Stevenson Cup champions with a narrow 1-0 win over Portadown College.

Following chances for both sides throughout the game, a penalty stroke from Scareltt Taylor proved to be the difference between the two sides.

The strike came midway through the third quarter and came following a foot on the line from open play.

The Armagh defender sent the goalkeeper the wrong way with her goal proving to be the difference between the two sides.
