Victoria Vixens Appeal for Female Members

A big turnout for their first training last week

A new cricket team in Lurgan is appealing for members as they try to establish the only female cricket team in the vicinity of the town.

Victoria Cricket Club’s men’s team was formed in 1959 on Victoria Street, playing in Lord Lurgan Park for a number of years, before a move to Gordon Playing Fields, and then to their current home in Lurgan Park.

The club is constantly expanding and have recently introduced a junior cricket side, an under 9s programme, a fledging under 11s and a 4th XI men’s side.

“We have always been a club who has tried to remain centred within the local community, ensuring that everyone regardless of age, ability or background can access the physical and social benefits of playing cricket,” a spokesperson for the Club stated.

“However, the one gap in our provision for the local community has been the lack of opportunities for women’s cricket. This is something we are trying to address with the launch of the Victoria Vixens, aimed at women of all ages and abilities regardless of their previous experience. It’s an opportunity to enjoy a sport, learn new skills and become part of a sporting community,” they added.

The Vixens are running taster sessions every Monday in Lurgan Park between 7:30 and 8:30 with a BBQ and awards following the game.
