BELFAST MMA fighter Leah McCourt (above right) stopped Sara McMann in the first round at Bellator 300 in San Diego, California to set up a featherweight title bout against Cris Cyborg (above left).
The contest, scheduled for 2024, will be the first title fight of Leah’s career. The 31 year old now has seven wins in her nine-fight Bellator career.
A worldwide live TV audience saw the referee stop the fight at the Pechanga Arena in San Diego as American McMann (43) wilted under a McCourt barrage.
“I’m relieved, it’s been a tough year after my last fight,” McCourt said, referring to her loss to Cat Zingano at Bellator 293 in March.
Leah, originally from Saintfield, and known as ‘The Curse’, is a former IMMAF World and European Amateur champion and International Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Federation gold medallist. She is also a black belt in Judo and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
