FOLLOWING the unprecedented success of local athletes at last week’s National Cross Country Championships in Irvinestown, a record number of NI and Ulster athletes have been selected to represent Ireland for the forthcoming European Cross Country Championships to be held in Antalya, Turkey on Sunday, December 8.
In the U20 Women’s team, Lucy Foster (Willowfield Harriers) and Annabel Morrison (Enniskillen RC) had already booked their spots by finishing first and second in Irvinestown. Eva Bartlett (Lagan Valley AC) who finished fourth was also given a spot by the selectors. Anna Gardiner (East Down AC) who was a scoring member of the Providence team that finished third in the NCAA’s at the weekend was given a discretionary place.
In the U23 Women’s team, only the first two across the line in Irvinestown were guaranteed selection so it was an anxious wait for the athletes outside those places. Amy Greene (Finn Valley AC) came second, getting the auto selection for the team and Roise Roberts (CNDR) who finished third was awarded a place on the team.
Ann-Marie McGlynn (Letterkenny AC) following her dominant win in Irvinestown had already secured her place in the senior women’s team.
