SOFIE Keenan is targeting another three points for Glentoran
when they host Larne Women in the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership this
evening (Friday, Kick-off 7.45pm).
The Glens got back to winning ways last Sunday as they picked up their second
league win of the season in style thanks to a 7-0 rout of Lisburn Ladies.
Keenan wants to make it three wins out of three come Friday night as they look
to keep pace at the top of the league.
“Overall it’s been a good start to the season for us with the only blip
so far coming against Waterford in the All-Island Cup,” said Keenan.
“Obviously we don’t like losing games but we know it’s going to happen
at some stage. The most important thing for any time is how they respond to
setbacks.
“I think everyone saw against Lisburn Ladies last weekend that we were
determined to put the record straight and get back to winning ways as quickly
as possible.
“This group has a great spirit and determination about them and
we wanted to go out and show what we are all about, thankfully we did that.
“The way the league is, we know we can’t afford to drop a lot of points. So,
we have to try and pick up as many points as possible to make sure we are up
there.
“Even at this early stage, this will only be our third league game so far,
we know we have to be on it and cannot afford to make silly mistakes.
The Glens face a Larne side still looking for a first league win of the season
following draws with Crusaders Strikers and Lisburn Ladies before they slipped
to a heavy 9-0 defeat at the hands of Linfield last time out.
Keenan says Glentoran will be taking nothing for granted ahead of the meeting
at the Blanchflower Stadium.
“That was probably the worst possible result for us as Larne will be
determined to turn things around come Friday evening,” said the defender.
“We won’t be going into the game thinking it’s going to be a walk in
the park that’s for sure.
“I’ve no doubt Larne will have regrouped this week and will be looking to
put things into practice when they play us.
“There’s no pressure on them so they can come here and play with a bit
more freedom.
“We just have to make sure that we are fully focused on what we have to do
and continue to work hard.
“I think last Sunday’s performance against Lisburn Ladies showed what we
are about and that we have the bit between our teeth.
“We know we are going to face challenges this season but it’s how you
react to them which is the important thing.”
