Silver for 16-year-old rising star Emer McKee in Senior 3000m event at Indoor Games

Willowfield's Emer McKee

EMER McKee has featured on the pages of Local Women Sport and many athletics publications around the world, especially when at the age of 12 she ran 16:44 for 5K and then followed that up with 16:27.

Even getting racing at that time had been a challenge with lockdowns, but that made Emer holder of the world best time for a 12 year old girl over 5K.

As we have said before, Willowfield Harriers competitor Emer just keeps on delivering superb athletics performances.

On Saturday past she made the trip to the National Indoor Arena in Dublin and took part in the Senior 3000m women’s race at the AAI Games.

Emer, who is still only 16 years old, had a fantastic race and took the silver behind DSD’s Amy O’Donoghue, a former Irish outdoor champion over 1500m. Emer’s time was 9:49.17.

This should provide a lot of encouragement as Emer is likely to be very busy over the next few months with training and competing in cross country and the track.
