BELFAST Star’s Aoibheann Donnelly has earned a call up to the Ireland U16 girls basketball team.
Welcoming her selection, Basketball NI said: “Aoibheann’s passion for the game and her impressive performances have earned her this spot on the national team. Her journey is an inspiration to aspiring young players in Belfast and beyond. We extend our congratulations to Aoibheann and look forward to watching her shine on the international stage.”
Aoibheann’s call up coincides with the launch of a Basketball NI initiative to attract more women into the sport.
Entitled ‘She Got Game’, the programme is supported by Sport NI and has already welcomed five teams into the social basketball sphere.
Belfast Bulls womens offshoot Ma Bulls, Magherafelt Titans, Northern Star and Newry Flyers have signed up to the eight-week programme designed to support and encourage women of all skill levels to get involved in the sport of basketball, whether as a complete rookie or an old school all-star.
Basketball NI enthused: “We can’t wait to witness the progress of these amazing local women as they embark on this exciting basketball adventure.”
