THE Ladies Gaelic Football Association have announced AIG Ireland are the new and exclusive partner of the Higher Education Committee (HEC) third-level competitions.
AIG Ireland has been the LGFA’s official Insurance Partner since 2019 and this announcement further deepens this key relationship.
AIG Ireland will now be the title partner the flagship third-level Colleges competition, the O’Connor Cup, which will now be known as the AIG O’Connor Cup.
AIG Ireland will also assume title rights of the HEC’s Giles, Lynch, Moynihan, Donaghy, Lagan and HEC Cups.
In addition, AIG Ireland will be title partner to the HEC’s Leagues and Freshers competitions for a three-year period.
This partnership is a major boost to third-level Ladies Gaelic Football, as Queen’s University, Belfast prepares to host the concluding stages of the various Championships in March.
The draws for the 2025 competitions were conducted at a QUB photocall.
Present at the announcement were Ladies Gaelic Football Association President, Mícheál Naughton, AIG’s Head of Consumer Marketing and Sponsorship, John Gillick, and Ladies HEC chairperson, Daniel Caldwell.
Players from AIG O’Connor Cup weekend hosts QUB were also in attendance, namely Cadhla-Cara Bogue (Fermanagh), Mia Doherty (Kildare), Bríd McNally (Monaghan) and Duana Coleman (Antrim).
Speaking at the event, on behalf of AIG Ireland, John Gillick, Head of Consumer Marketing and Sponsorship, said: “AIG Ireland have been proud insurance partners to the LGFA since 2019 and we are delighted to deepen our partnership with the Ladies HEC Leagues and Championships.

Ladies Higher Education Committee chairperson, Daniel Caldwell, said: “I am delighted to be in Queens University Belfast today for the draws for the 2025 AIG HEC Championships.
“Having just completed the Leagues, we are now looking forward to renewing rivalries across seven championships, with over 2000 players competing for the right to come to Belfast in March for the Finals weekend.
“The weekend is the pinnacle of the Ladies college football year, and having met with the Queen’s University organising committee, we have a great weekend to look forward to.
“In addition to the draws for the Championships, we are announcing today that AIG are coming on board as title partner for all HEC competitions. We are excited about the opportunity to partner with AIG and look forward to working together.”
