QUEEN’S University were crowned champions of the Legacy Wealth Management Premier League as they beat Armagh 2-1 with one game left to play.
The win sees the side win the division for a second consecutive season after a closely fought title race with Portadown.
Following their midweek upset to beat Lurgan, Armagh put up another impressive display to hold the champions to 0-0 until the third quarter.
The deadlock was then finally broken when Megan Cochrane fired in to finish off a free-flowing team move but they continued to not get things all their own way.
Their hosts struck back in quick succession as Daisy Nicholson deflected in from a Grace McCool penalty corner to level the scoring but ultimately Simon Bell’s side got their winner, with Katie Kimber sealing a late 2-1 victory to secure the title.
Elsewhere in the division, Portadown ended their league campaign with a comfortable 6-0 win over mid-table Omagh.
Goals from Evie Girvan (2), Katie Herron (2), Beth Harper and Lara Wilson sealed the emphatic win for the league runners-up in their final league game of the season.
Despite missing out on the title, the side could still achieve promotion to the EYHL as they now prepare to face Corinthians in their EYHL2 Semi-Final.
