CITY of Lisburn athlete Anna McCauley kicked off 2025 in style, winning the Senior Women’s Pentathlon title with a personal best of 4133 points at the England Combined Events Championships in Sheffield, while Ellie McCartney, Rachel McCann and Emer McKee also delivered standout performances across Europe.
Commonwealth Games 2022 top 8 Heptathlon performer Anna is currently based in Sheffield and trains with John Lane’s international combined events group at the EIS venue.
Anna made the most of competing in the familiar surroundings and put together a consistently high series of individual marks to score her Personal Best including 60m Hurdles (8.74), High Jump (1.75m), Shot Put (11.58m), Long Jump (5.72m) and 800m (2:17.76).
Lisburn clubmate Ellie McCartney, coached by Kate Rooney, followed up her equal NI Indoor Record from the previous week with a win in the B competition at the StarPerche in Bordeaux, France. Ellie recorded 4.26m before attempting an outright NI Indoor Record of 4.36m but did not manage it on this occasion.
At the Irish League in Dublin there were impressive guest race wins for Olympic 4x400m squad member Rachel McCann (North Down AC/Ian Neeley) who set and outright PB in the 200m of 24.69 and for Emer McKee (Willowfield Harriers/Mark Kirk) who ran an indoor 1500m PB of 4:29.89 to also take the win.
