NIWFA Championship round-up

It was a busy night in the NIWFA Championship as the second round of fixtures took place with Bangor FC, St James Swifts and Ballymena United securing back-to-back victories.

Bangor sail to victory

Amber Dempster opened the scoring on the 11th minute, before Emi Wynne doubled the Seasiders’ lead seven minutes later when she fired into the bottom left hand corner.

Wynne made it 3-0 on the 24th minute, with Janine Jess’s low strike extending Bangor’s lead before the half time whistle.

Dempster doubled her tally for the evening with a lovely solo finish, with Jodie Shannon making it 6-0 with twenty minutes to go.

In additional time new signing Ashleigh Scott netted twice and Leah Robinson also found the back of the net as the Seasiders were the comfortable victors at Clandeboye Park in a 9-0 win.

Ballymena the winners of feisty and eventful game

It was Sion Swifts who made the brighter start to the game and opened the scoring on the 23rd minute thanks to Hannah Gibson, before Megan Henry levelled the game on the 38th minute.

Henry netted for the second time just after the half time break, but Cache Crumlish cancelled the goal out on the 61st minute with an unstoppable strike.

The impressive Henry scored the winner with a pass/strike from the right flank. Amy Doherty -Jones received a red card but Ballymena showed great resilience to deny Sion from taking advantage of the extra player.

St James Swifts make it back-to-back victories

Chloe Tully broke the deadlock after just eight minutes with an OG doubling the Swifts’ advantage.

Debbie Ferguson made it 2-1 before Tully restored St James’ two goal advantage.

The first half goals weren’t done there though as Sophie Laughlin netted with a minute to go in the first half.

Tiarna Hunter made it 4-2 on the 64th minute before Swifts made it 5-2 on the 82nd.

Chloe Doak got the final goal of the game late into stoppage time as St James register another impressive victory.

Camlough and Belfast Celtic gain first point of the season

Sara-Louise McLaughlin and Niamh Adams gave the visitors a comfortable lead at the 30-minute mark.

However, Olivia Connolly made it 1-2, before an OG restored the two goal lead.

Two skilful goals from Camlough made it 3-3 as both sides registered their first points in the Championship.


Plunkett and Ballyclare play out goalless draw

Meanwhile at Crumlin Leisure Centre, St Oliver Plunkett and Ballyclare Comrades drew 0-0.
