GLENTORAN and Northern Ireland U19s goalkeeper Ellie Scott has revealed her heartbreak at suffering a second serious knee injury in only her second game back after a previous torn ACL.
Ellie was hospitalised again by her latest injury setback while playing for NI U19s in Albania, casting a shadow over the team’s successful Euro 2025 qualifying tournament.
She has vowed, however, not to be beaten by the new blow and to return to action once more.
Her club and many friends in football have also backed Ellie to come back stronger for the shattering experience.
Ellie said on her Instagram account: “It’s impossible to put into words how heartbroken I feel.
“In my second game back, against Albania, unfortunately I’ve torn my ACL again.
“Sixteen months after the first injury, I finally made my comeback, only to now find myself right back where I started.
“The past year and a half of my life has been consumed by my rehab. Every ounce of energy, every hour spent in the gym, on the pitch, in ice baths – all of it just to get back here. To feel like I was finally returning to my best, only to be hit with this… it’s hard to even wrap my head around.
“I’m determined to not let this define me, but it’s tough to ignore the pain of it all.
“I’ve done it once before, I can do it again. But still, it doesn’t make this moment any easier. I just want to do what I love, play football for my club and country.
“I need some time to process everything, to heal, and to come back stronger than ever.
“This journey is far from over – I just need to keep believing that.
“Thank you all for the constant support. I won’t let this break me. I’ll be back.”
Glentoran said on their social media: “Our thoughts are with goalkeeper Ellie Scott after her devastating news of a second ACL injury in her second appearance back for Northern Ireland Under 19’s.
“Elle underwent a gruelling 16 month rehabilitation period after her first injury and we know how much it meant to her to get back out on the pitch.
“We have every faith that Ellie will be back doing what she does best sooner rather than later. The comeback is greater than the setback.”
