TEN time capped senior Northern Ireland international Toni Leigh Finnegan has joined Aberdeen Women as coach Scott Booth continues to strengthen his squad.
The 23-year-old from Belfast joins from NIFL Premiership champions Cliftonville, where she has spent her entire career prior to joining the Dons.
The holding midfielder was an integral part of the side that claimed a domestic treble last season.Finnegan made her senior debut for Northern Ireland in March 2020 and was part of the group that emerged victorious from their Euro 2022 play-off against Ukraine, only missing out on the squad for the tournament through injury.
The midfielder got a taste of continental club football when her Cliftonville side played European giants Benfica in a Champions League qualifying match in 2023 – Finnegan claiming an assist on the night in Lisbon.
Subject to clearance, Finnegan goes straight into Booth’s squad and is available for Sunday’s Sky Sports Cup Semi-final against Hibernian at Meadowbank.
Finnegan is ready to get going with the Dons: “I’m really excited to be at Aberdeen. It is a big move in my career, and I’m excited to get started and learn from Scott and the rest of the girls. I feel like this is the natural next step for me.”
