SUPER news ahead of next month’s eagerly awaited big kick off for the Northern Ireland Women’s Football Association 2024 season.

Your No1 source of NI female sports coverage, localwomensport.com, has teamed up with the NIWFA to sponsor the season’s blue riband knockout competition, the Super Cup, for the next two years.

Now known as the localwomensport.com Super Cup, the competition is unique in the NIWFA in that it is open to teams across all eight divisions with up to 54 clubs going into an unseeded open draw, creating the possibility of a lower division team claiming a higher ranking scalp.

Rounds will be played from mid-May, leading up to the grand final in September, fittingly the final match of the NIWFA season.

And there will be a new name on the localwomensport.com trophy with holders Lisburn Rangers moving up to the NIFL Premier and no longer eligible.  So there’s all to play for and we at localwomensport.com will play our part, too, with total coverage of the games and, indeed, all the NIWFA competitions this season and beyond.

NIWFA vice chair Patricia McCullough welcomed the new partnership, saying: “We are very much looking forward to working with localwomensport.com to promote our exciting and ever popular Super Cup competition.

“We have partnered with the Local Women Sport brand in the past and see this latest strengthening of our relationship as recognition of the NIWFA’s continuing drive to develop women’s football in Northern Ireland through our leagues and cups.”

Jana McCabe, of localwomensport.com, responded: “We have much in common with the NIWFA in our progressive outlooks. That makes sponsorship of the Super Cup a natural fit for us. And as localwomensport.com expands online and on our social media platforms, providing a showcase for women’s football, and especially the Super Cup, will be an integral part of our ever increasing coverage of female sport across the board.”
