Mullahoran are the 2024 AIB Ulster Intermediate champions

Carrickmacross Monaghan 2-3

Mullahoran Cavan 5-13

Clinical and effective Mullahoran claimed the AIB Ulster intermediate title at Omagh on Sunday.

The Cavan champions dominated the encounter with veteran Aishling Sheridan and teenager Emila Mussi scoring 1-4 apiece in a one sided encounter.

Carrickmacross failed to ever get going despite an early Sarah Hughes goal well outclassed by a well drilled Mullahoran who also missed a second minute penalty.

The Monaghan sides goalkeeper Aoibheann O’Rourke made three key first half saves kept her side still in the contest.Mussi, Sheridan, Geraldine Sheridan and Kate Fegan were outstanding for the champions while at the back Aoibhinn Galligan and Hannah Brady were always in control.

Only Sarah Capaaldi and Hughes showed for Carrick who ended up losing by nioneteen points, they can have no complaints.

The Cavan champions dominated the first half driving at Carrick throughout recovering from that early Hughes goal to lead by ten points at the break.

They deserved the lead and in reality it could easily have been more but O’Rourke and Sheridan’s missed penalty two minutes in.Aishling Mc Auliffe and Sheridan exchanged early points after the set back of that Mullahorn squandered a spot kick and when Mullahoran keeper Higgins scuffed a short 45 and couldn’t get back a sweeping move produced a goal for Carrick.

Aine Loughman collected the loose ball drove it through to Capaldi who teed up Hughes who made no mistake from close range.

By the tenth minute Mullahoran had steadied the ship and O’Rouke had denied Sheridan, Kate Fegan and Emilia Mussi. Mussi’s well angled point on he run got Horan moving and they built on that with a goal two minutes later. Fegan closed in down the right and her pass over two defenders was drilled to the net by Gearldine Sheridan.

Kate Fegan, Nicole Sheils and under 16 Captain Mussi had Mullahoran five clear by the turn of the quarter.

Carrick huffed and puffed but never threatened as a brace from Sheridan was followed on twenty five minutes with a second Mullahoran goal Fegan carrying the ball through the defence to finish well past O’Rourke.

Sheridan and Capaldi exchanging late first half points. On the restart there was a positive start for Carrick when Caoimhe Carolan dropped over a free.

Normal service was resumed when Sheridans inch perfect pass sent Fegan in for goal number three on 37 minutes.

A goal from Hughes on the run was quickly cancelled out with a Fegan point and a superb piece of skill from Mussi to hold off three defenders saw her complete to the net. From then until the end it was a case of just keeping the scoreboard moving as Carrick chased shadows.

Gearldine Sheridan tagged on a point and creative work from Cathy Sheils opened the way for Aishling again to crash home a fifth goal.

Further points from Mussi in a performance worthy of the player of the match award and Etain Higgins wrapped up the win with style.

A solid outing by the Cavan side fully deserving of the win and title.
