LURGAN’S Annabel Wilson is one of four Irish golfers Golf Ireland to secure either a full Tour card or status on the Ladies European Tour for 2025 after an unprecedented week in Morocco.
The final qualifier at Lalla Aicha Q-School saw Annabel Wilson, Anna Foster and Sara Byrne all secure full cards, while amateur Canice Screene can also look forward to some LET status next year.
Foster led the way for the Irish at Al Maaden Golf Marrakech, she closed with a 69 for a -17 total and a T6 finish. Wilson ended her week two strokes further back in T8 after a closing 68, with Byrne in 15th on -12. Screene finished with a 72 in 36th place.
“What a fantastic way to round off the year with the most successful LET Tour school for Irish golfers,” said Golf Ireland CEO Mark Kennelly.
“It was phenomenal to see four Irish golfers make it into the latter stages of the week, with three gaining full cards on the Tour for next year, while Canice will also get her chance in 2025.
“We are so proud of that quartet and it will be a huge boost to see them line out in tournaments alongside the likes of Lauren Walsh as Irish women’s golf continues to go from strength to strength.”
Walsh, who turned professional in 2023, will now have at least three Irish golfers for company on the LET next year.
And after a fantastic 2024 on the golf course, where Byrne was part of the successful Curtis Cup team, this is another major accomplishment for women’s golf in Ireland.
“What a great achievement for all four players to come straight from their amateur career into Tour School with Sara, Annabel and Anna getting their Tour card while Canice has got status on Tour, all at the first time of asking,” said Golf Ireland High Performance Director Neil Manchip.
“So a really really exciting 2025 ahead with these players looking to follow in the footsteps of Leona Maguire, Stephanie Meadow and Lauren Walsh. Lauren turned pro just last year and has done so well in her first year as a professional.
“These are all great role models for young women and girls coming up through the pathway. Looking forward to watching their progress in 2025.”
While Annabel now represents Castlerock, she holds honorary life membership at her home town club, Lurgan.
