LURGAN Taekwondo sensation Monika Ilieva has added to her growing list of successes by securing Gold at the European Grand Prix Taekwondo Championship in Tallin, Estonia.
Fifteen year old Monika lined out in the Junior 52kg division, earning gold after four bouts that saw her win 2:0 v Spain, quarter final 2:1 v Finland, semi-final 2:1 v Italy and final 2:0 v Greece.
Monika is now not only the European Grand Prix Champion, but the first Junior athlete to win the prestigious title for Great Britain!
Monika is a member of the National Taekwondo Club (NTC) and GB Taekwondo Development Programme.
Previously, Monika won the Chairman’s Award at Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon council Junior Sports Awards andi s also a current recipient of an ABC council Sports Forum Talented Athlete Grant and Leisure Access Card.
To pursue her Olympic dream, Monika travels to Manchester multiple times a month to train in GB Taekwondo National Centre.
