QUEEN’S University continued to show their intent to make their mark on the Women’s EY All Ireland hockey league with a 5-2 win over fellow Ulster side Ulster Elks.

It was the only game involving Ulster sides to survive Storm Amy.

Despite going a goal down in the first quarter, a hat-trick from Jenna McCarlie saw them turn the tide to lead 3-1.

Elks reduced the deficit in quarter three but two goals in the closing minutes of the game secured Queen’s third win of the campaign.

Elsewhere, Pembroke Wanderers edged Catholic Institute.

A goal early in quarter two put Pembroke ahead before Abigail O’Malley put the game to bed in the final minutes of quarter 3 to secure a potentially crucial three points for Pembroke as they grab their first win of the campaign and climb to fourth in the table.

Railway Union survived an early scare against UCD to record a 3-1 win over the students and climb to joint top of the table.

UCD scored with the first attack of the game through Rebecca Carthy, but Railway fought back in the second half, with Lily Lloyd drawing them level before Sophia Cole scored from the penalty spot and Hollai Quinn put the game beyond reach from open play in the final minute.
