Heavy loss to Cavan leaves Antrim facing battle to maintain their Intermediate status

ANTRIM’S TG4 All-Ireland Intermediate status will come down to an all or nothing clash with Offaly or Wicklow after defeat, 3-11 to 0-7 by Cavan at Inniskeen

The convincing win ensured Cavan preserve their intermediate status for another year.

Anrim never recovered from a storming start by Cavan who led 0-6 to 0-3 after 26 minutes. Zara Fay, Sinead Levingstone, Deirbhile McCaffrey, Amy Wharton (two) and Ally Cahill were on target for Cavan followed by two  goals from Sinead Levingstone opened up a bine point gap.

With Ciara Brady adding another point in first-half stoppage time, Cavan were unassailably ahead, 2-7 to 0-3, at half-time.

That lead increased to 14 points as Amy Wharton scored a penalty goal within four minutes of the restart.

Antrim rallied to register four of the last seven scores but, with Cavan so comfortably ahead, a comeback was never on.
