BELFAST Harlequins and Ards experienced mixed fortunes in their weekend EY All Ireland hockey league games.
In Pool A, Harlequins travelled to the Sports Campus Ireland at Abbotstown, Dublin to face Greenfields and were always in control in a 3-0 win.
Susie McCollum (above) opened the scoring for Harlequins in the 31st minute when she converted a penalty corner. Two goals from open play scored in the 53rd and 55th minutes by Emma Fraser secured the three points for the Ulster women.
In Pool B, Ards were unable to make home advantage count at Londonderry Park as Munster Senior Leaguers, University College Cork came away with a 2-1 win.
Jane Murphy gave the students the lead, converting a penalty corner in the fourth minute to put the Cork side 1-0 up. Rachel Houston equalised for the Ulster Women’s Premier Leaguers when she converted a penalty corner in the 18th minute. But all three points were on their way south when Jane Murphy got her second goal of the match with another penalty corner conversion in the 48th minute to secure the 2-1 win for UCC.
