SPORT NI Sports Institute physio Sinead Chambers is heading to the Paralympic Games in Paris as part of Paralympics GB team. The Games start on Wednesday, August 28.
Sinead will be attending her second Paralympic Games after her debut appearance at Tokyo in 2021 working with Badminton where Paralympics GB came home with two medals.
This time, she’ll be working across all athletes as HQ physio and explained why this role means so much: “I have been involved in Paralympic sport for the last six years and I love it. I am so passionate about the paralympic movement and making the world a better place for disabled people.
“It really inspires me working with these athletes and to see what they can do, not only on the sporting arena or in life but how they support each other and how they are as human beings is just incredible.
“I also love the physio side of my work, problem solving and complex issues and working as a multi-disciplinary team to resolve those issues that have never been done before.
“That is what gets my physio brain going and also the human side of it seeing athletes performing on the world stage, giving their all, even in the face of adversity.”
Sinead will be based in the Olympic Village supporting physiotherapists for the National Governing Bodies and will be using her experience from the Sports Institute in Paris.
She has dealt with many athletes ahead of the Olympics and Paralympics this summer, saying: “I have most notably worked with swimming where we have had great success with Danielle Hill and Grace Davison.
“From a paralympic side, I work with Barry McClements, Deaten Registe and Dearbhalie Brady who are three Paralympic swimmers and I also work with Claire Taggart on a weekly basis. It’s great to support them all.”
Sinead joins other Sport NI Sports Institute staff in going to the Games or supporting athletes attending the Olympics & Paralympics.
She is delighted that her colleagues are being showcased at the elite level of sport: “It shows the expertise and the level to which the staff at the Sport NI Sports Institute are working at.
“We have got practitioners at the top of their game with athletes at the top of their game. For me, it’s the diversity of sports and athletes we have at Olympics and Paralympics which showcases our abilities,” Sinead added.
