Gail Redmond takes training
NORTHERN Ireland’s Women’s Under-19 and Under-17 teams are gearing up for Euro qualifiers in February and March
The U19s are in League B for the second stage of the UEFA WU19 Euro 2025 qualifiers, while the U17s will also be competing in League B in the second and final round of the WU17 Euro 2025 qualifiers.
Gail Redmond, who manages both teams, will be taking her WU19s squad to Albania later this month to compete against the Albanians, Azerbaijan and Montenegro in League B Group 4.
First up is a game against Azerbaijan, at the House of Football in Tirana, on February 18.
Matchday two, on February 21, will see them take on Montenegro at the same venue, while they will complete the mini tournament with a game against the hosts at Elbasan Arena in Elbasan on February 24.
The winners of League B Group 4 will be promoted to League A for stage one of the qualifiers for WU19 Euro 2026 this autumn.
In the opening stage of qualifiers for WU19 Euro 2025 the WU19s were defeated by a strong Spanish team in League A Group 6.
In a mini tournament staged in Spain back in November they also narrowly lost to Belgium and drew with Iceland, but that was not enough for them to retain their League A status.
Redmond and her WU17s will not have to travel too far when the WU17s compete in League B in the second and final round of the WU17 Euro 2025 qualifiers.
That’s because Northern Ireland is hosting the mini tournament for Group 1 in League B.First up for the WU17s, on St Patrick’s Day (Monday, March 17), is a game against Montenegro at Seaview Stadium in Belfast (5.30pm kick-off).
Earlier that day Estonia and Kazakhstan will be in action at the same venue (12.30pm).
Matchday two, on March 20, will see Northern Ireland take on Kazakhstan at Inver Park in Larne (400pm start), while Estonia and Montenegro will meet at Seaview (12.30pm).
And in the third and final set of fixtures in the group, on Sunday, March 23, Northern Ireland are due to come up against Estonia at Seaview as Montenegro face Kazakhstan at Inver Park (both 5.30pm starts).
The winners of League B Group 1 will be promoted to League A for stage one of the qualifiers for WU17 Euro 2026 this autumn.
In stage one of the UEFA Women’s U17 Euro 2025 qualifiers the WU17s competed in League A Group 4.In the mini tournament, staged in Scotland in October, they were relegated to League B after being beaten 5-0 by Poland, narrowly defeated by the Scots (1-0) and then losing 3-0 against Iceland.
