A disqualification, a successful appeal and two weeks later, we can confirm that the womens NI and Ulster Road Relay Champions 2024 are Willowfield Harriers.
In very warm conditions, at Victoria Park in east Belfast, (how things have changed) Kirsti Foster, pictured, led off the blue and white hoops in fine style and, at the end of the two one-mile laps, she was in second position, just behind Annadale Striders’ Hannah Gilliland. Later we would find that Hannah ran the fastest leg of the day and Kirsti the second fastest.
Kirsti passed on to Emer McKee, who ran superbly, pacing herself well and passing Annadale to hand over to Jodi Foster in the lead.
Jodi, a younger sister of Kirsti, ran well before handing on to another sister, Lucy.
Lucy was not going to be caught and crossed the line in gold medal position, cementing a fabulous win for a very young team, much to the delight of long term Willowfield coach, Lawson Cochrane, who was there watching.
