THE standout performances from a NI perspective at the Irish Indoor Championships in Dublin were gold medals for Roisin Flanagan and Sommer Lecky, both of Finn Valley AC.
Sommer yet again won an Irish title in the high jump, this time on countback from Dundalk’s young Tara O’Connor, both athletes having cleared 1.81.
Roisin Flanagan, meanwhile, left nothing to chance in the 3000m with a scorching victory in 9:14, over seven seconds clear of second place.
North Down AC’s Rachel McCann claimed a bronze medal in the 400m with a time of 53.37.
In the long jump, heptathlon specialist from City of Lisburn AC, Anna McCauley, got bronze with a leap of 5.66.
In the pole vault, her club-mate Abby O’Neill came fourth, clearing 3.15.
Ashleigh McCardle of Lifford Strabane AC claimed bronze in the shot put with 12.42 and Anna McCauley came fourth with 12.26.
Finally, in the 1500m, Edel Monaghan was fifth with a time of 4:28 with young Willowfield star Emer McKee sixth in 4:29, aged only 16.
