Excited for the challenges ahead… Samantha Jo Greer appointed new head coach of go-ahead Antrim Town Women FC as second senior team is added

SAMANTHA Jo Greer is the new head coach of progressive Antrim Town Women and Girls FC.

Announcing the appointment, the club said: “Jo has excelled in her coaching journey achieving up to UEFA C Diploma so far and winning the IFA McDonalds Grassroots Coach of the Year. With her fantastic coaching abilities, Jo is also a leader on and off the pitch.  

“With the club wanting to focus on growing our women’s section, we are excited for this period of change as Jo implements her vision and applies her ambitions for the women’s 1st team for the new season ahead in the NIWFA League and beyond.”

A successful trophy winning player with the club, Jo responded: “I am looking forward to my new role and responsibilities as head coach of our football club.

“We have a fantastic group of player and I am fully committed to driving us forward, both on and off the pitch.

“I am excited foe the challenges ahead and can’t wait to get started and continue to build on the club success to date.”

At the same time, Nick Johnson takes over as coach of the club’s new second senior team.

Nick is a familiar face at the club as he has been assisting with the senior women’s team for over four years, playing a key part in back to back promotions and a double award winning season.  Nick will be responsible for developing and growing the second senior team plus working alongside Jo in creating a pathway programme from the girls academy.

Nick said: “I am extremely privileged and excited to be the inaugural coach for Antrim Town Women introducing a second senior ladies team and another step in our player pathway ladder from academy to first team player development. 

“I am also really excited to start working in tandem with Jo who has a great first hand working knowledge of the game, not just as a player, but as a coach in her own right.

“Bring on the new season and the challenge ahead.”
