KATE O’Connor will compete in the World Indoor Championships pentathlon in China on Friday after her memorable European Indoor Championships bronze medal in The Netherlands earlier this month.
The Newry born athlete and post-grad student in Belfast will join an Irish team consisting of Euro gold medallist Sarah Healy (3000m), Sarah Lavin (60m hurdles) and Sophie O’Sullivan (1500m), Sophie being the daughter of legendary Irish athlete, Sonia O’Sullivan.
The pentathlon field is likely to have a couple of American athletes in it who were not in the Euros, but it looks like Saga Vanninen of Finland, the European Indoor champion, will line up as favourite.
Kate will be looking to renew the rivalry and try to equal or surpass her performance earlier this month which was also a new Irish record.
