ANTRIM’S experience carried them to this victory over a Derry team who paid the price for a lack of creativity, though Antrim, too, had their lean spells.
Derry had five wides before Aoife Shaw opened their account in the 13th minute from a 45.
In sharp contrast, Antrim put first three efforts over the bar, with Caitrín Dobbin, Dervla Cosgrove (free) and Maeve Kelly taking the points.
Aoife Shaw replied for Derry with two frees and Áine Barton tied the scores with a tap over from the right wing.
A 12 minute Antrim barren spell then ended with the only goal of the game, Róisín McCormick and Player of the Match Erin Coulter combining to set up Caitrín Dobbin for the final touch.
Derry were back level by the break (0-6 to 1-3) with quick points from Áine Barton and Anna Cassidy.
On the restart, Antrim gradually built up a three-point lead with three scores from Dervla Cosgrove.
Points from Áine Barton and Aimee Lennon reduced the gap, but the Saffrons finished strongly with points from Sarah Fyfe, Róisín McCormick (free) and two from sub Cassie McArthur to claim their 49th title and a confidence booster for the next meeting of the teams in the first round of the Glen Dimplex All-Ireland Senior Championship in a fortnight.
