Enniskillen, Virginia and Omagh emerge victorious in Girls’ Rugby Youth Leagues

ENNISKILLEN (U18), Virginia (U16), and Omagh (U14) have emerged victorious in the Ulster Rugby Youth Leagues, now complete.

In the U18 section,  Enniskillen beat Ards, Ballynahinch, Banbridge, Cooke and Donaghadee to take secure the trophy.

Coach Ian Ross said: “To win this league in such style and having won all of their League fixtures this season is another great achievement by this super bunch of girls who just keep pushing the boundaries of girls youth rugby at Enniskillen RFC.

The entire Club membership is hugely proud of them and their success.”

Co-Captain Aimee Ross added: “As a standalone team we thoroughly enjoyed the challenge that each of our games provided. Winning the final was an example of our trusted teamwork and commitment by everyone on the ERFC side this season, therefore we couldn’t be happier with the result.”

Cavan club Virginia beat Cooke and Ballymena to the U16 league.

Captain Aisling Caffrey said: “To win the Ulster league means so much to us as a team, it really does. Our coaches, families and everyone at the club is delighted, too. We’ve trained in torrential rain, wild winds and not to mention freezing fog this winter! I’m so proud to be part of this special group. For a small club at the southernmost point of Ulster, winning this league is a huge deal for us. In fact, the only thing that can top this is bringing home the Cup!”

Coaches Chris Clarke and  Schalk van Lill jointly added: “Coaching this incredibly special group of girls is a privilege. They have an unwavering commitment to the team and every time they go out on the pitch, they give it 100%. As coaches, we can ask nothing more. Winning the league is great reward for all the effort they put in this season so far. We also welcomed three exchange students to the team this season. They are adding great value to the team and hopefully they’ll continue playing rugby when they go back to Spain.”

In the U14 section, Omagh defeated Cooke and Ballymena in the last round to lift the trophy.

Their coach commented: “It’s a fantastic achievement for our U14 girls win top the league in only their second season! It’s a testament to their dedication and promotes the club’s female section with pride. Club and coaches are delighted for the girls and the effort that they put in!”
