PORTADOWN defeated Armagh 4-0 away in the county derby to close the gap at the top of the Ulster Premier League to just goal difference as leaders Queen’s were held to a 1-1 draw by Lisnagarvey in the Friday night round of games
Big winners on the night, Ports led 1-0 after the first quarter after the ball was worked into the circle where Katie Herron sneaked the ball to Emily Adamson who made no mistake.
Portadown took greater control in the second quarter and were two goals ahead at half-time.
Backed by a resolute defence, Annie Gordon stole the ball and it was worked through two of her team mates before Evie Girvan took the ball and spun and released her shot in one movement to put the Ports two up.
Evie is now the first player to net 10 goals in the league this season.
Emily Adamson was able to force the ball over the line to give Portadown a commanding lead in the third quarter and a fabulous team goal was finished with a clean strike by Serena Campuzano into the far corner of the net to make it four.
The final game of the night saw Mossley earn a hard-fought 2-1 away win against Ballymoney.
In Saturday’s games, Lurgan kept up their challenge in a 2-0 win at Banbridge while Omagh and Harlequins played out a 0-0 stalemate.
