County Down martial arts sensation Rachael Carvill, still only 16, is going for gold again in Tae Kwon Do World Championships

RACHAEL Carvill, a Tae Kwon Do world champion at 14, is going for gold again at the 2025 World Championships in Barcelona, taking place from July 22-27.

Now aged 16, the talented teen, from the village of Mayobridge in County Down, has been making her mark in martial arts since the age of seven.

Achieving the rank of 2nd Dan Black Belt, Rachael has built up an impressive competition background in Tae Kwon Do events across Ireland, the UK, Germany, the Netherlands and Spain.

Rachael dedicates herself to rigorous training, participating in monthly squad sessions for both Team Ireland and her local club.

These sessions are vital in her preparation for a range of competitions, from local contests to prestigious international events, including European and World Championships.
With an undefeated record in all sparring competitions over the past few years, Rachael has distinguished herself as a formidable competitor.

Her most notable achievement came during the 2022 World Championships, held in the Netherlands, where she claimed the Gold medal after a series of challenging matches over three days. At just 14 years old, she was the youngest competitor in her section, a testament to her skill and determination.

In addition to her individual accolades, Rachael had the honour of being appointed Captain of the Under 18 Irish girls’ team, a role that not only showcased her leadership abilities but also filled her, her family, and her club with immense pride.

Recently, Rachael has expanded her athletic pursuits by joining a local boxing club, where she trains on weekday evenings alongside her Tae Kwon Do schedule. Her dedication has already led to significant accomplishments, including a Gold medal at the Ulster Championships and also a Gold at the All-Ireland Championships in Dublin.

Next up are the  2025 World Championships in in Barcelona at the end of July. As a proud member of the Irish female team, Rachael aspires to bring home another Gold medal for her country, demonstrating her commitment and dedication to her sport.
