Armagh City Hotel Ulster Junior Championship Final

Tyrone 3-15, Down 2-5

TYRONE produced their best display of the year to comfortably defeat pre-match favourites Down on a perfect Pearse Óg pitch in Armagh.

Down made the better start as as Neamh Burns found the the net in the opening minute.

Tyrone bounced back with four unanswered points from Roisin O’Neill, Olibhia Farley, Lara Devlin and Cara Little before a point from Ellen Shiels tied the score at 0-4 to 1-1.

Cara Little landed Tyrone’s first goal of the game with a superb finish, leading to a seven points in a row spree to send the Red Hands in at the break leading 1-11 to 1-1. Among the scorers were Little again, Lara Devlin, Lauren Fitzgerald, Farley and team captain Siobhan Donnelly.

Another Sheils point and one from Neamh Burns hinted at a Down comeback but, despite conceding a secon goal, Tyrone held firm.

Lara Devlin and Lauren Fitzgerald fired over to take the pressure off before a solo goal effort from Devlin left Down nine points behind with 14 minutes remaining.

With Tyrone freshening up with several changes as the game entered the closing minutes, Cara Little hit her side’s third goal to put the result beyond doubt as Tyrone went on to add the Ulster Junior title to the League crown they claimed last month.
