Aimee Kerr scores twice as Glens head for Europe, boosted by 4-1 win over Lisburn Ladies in the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership… report and pictures

Glens goal celebration

GLENTORAN head to Cyprus for their UEFA Champions League clash with Mura of Slovenia, buoyed by this 4-1 Sports Direct Women’s Premiership win over Lisburn Ladies.

The Glens were two up in seven minutes. The first came from Aimee Kerr, followed three minutes later by skipper Jess Foy, continuing her impressive goalscoring form with a back post header converting Demi Vance’s corner from the right.

For the next half hour the Glens dominated possession but did little to threaten the Lisburn goal or to increase their lead.

So it was no great surprise when, from an excellent left wing run from Abbie Burnett, Glens keeper Ashleigh McKinnon parried the final shot and Rachel Kerr was on hand to halve the Glens’ lead, making it 2-1 at the break.

The Glens stepped up the momentum in the second half with a number of decent efforts going wide or being saved.

It was only a matter of time before the champions’ increased pressure told and it came on the hour when Aimee Kerr’s direct free kick went above the wall and into the Lisburn net. A great strike and Kerr’s deserved second of the night.

The Glens sealed the match nine minutes later and it was a solo effort worthy of clinching any match as 17 year old Kascie Weir burst into the Lisburn area before ramming home to make it four.
