JUDGING is complete for our 2024 localwomensport.com awards and the countdown is now on to our second annual, star studded awards ceremony, sponsored by GO Power.
Saturday, April 27 will see the entire spectrum of women’s sport in NI gather at the Europa Hotel for the only dedicated women-only sports awards event of its kind in the UK and Ireland.
From the elite to grassroots, backroom to unsung, localwomensport.com will honour inspirational female achievers from sporting disciplines and fields, right across the board.
Sponsored by fuel provider GO Power, our awards, inaugurated last year to widespread acclaim, are another ground breaker for Ireland’s first and foremost women’s sports news, features and results service… your go-to champion of women’s sport.
Compered again by localwomensport.com columnist and Ulster Television sports personality, Ruth Gorman, watch this space for upcoming details of the finalists in 30 wide-ranging categories.
Such was the high standard of entries from our readers and social media followers, 600 nominations in all, it took five hours of deliberation by our expert judging panel at the Europa Hotel awards venue and via Zoom to narrow down the list to eight finalists in each category with the winners to be announced on stage on the night of April 27.
Our judging panel comprised Gail Redmond, a former Northern Ireland football international and now on the Irish FA coaching staff, Dr Katie Liston, former elite athlete and senior sports lecturer at the University of Ulster, Zoe Watson, Picture Editor of our media partner, Belfast Live, Catriona Channing, camog and entrepeneur, Laura Loughran, sales manager of awards overall sponsor GO Power, localwomensport.com writer Jana McCabe and compere Ruth Gorman, supported by event co-ordinator Michelle McTernan and assistant Antonia Briscoe.
“We were at the same time impressed and overwhelmed by the depth of female sporting talent put forward for this year’s awards,” said Jana McCabe of localwomensport.com. “It was an almighty task for the judges to select their finalists and eventual winners but after much thought and debate, we reached our decisions and now we look forward to seeing you all on the night.”
