Rachel McCann selected as part of Ireland’s relay squad for the World Indoor Championships

2024 Irish Universities indoor 400m Champion and championship record holder, Rachel McCann, has been selected as part of the Irish women’s 4x400m relay squad for the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow (March 1st-3rd).

Rachel competes for North Down AC and is a scholarship athlete at Queen’s University, Belfast.

She will join Sharlene Mawdsley (Newport AC),, Sophie Becker (Raheny Shamrock), Phil Healy (Brandon AC), Roisin Harrison (Emerald AC) and Lauren Cadden (Sligo AC).

Sharlene Mawdsley has become famous for her heroics at the World Championships last year where she competed in the individual 400m, the women’s relay and the mixed relay, dipping under the 50 second barrier for the first time in the process.

Elsewhere, Finn Valley AC’s Roisin Flanagan has been a late addition to the Irish team for the World Indoor Championships.  She was awarded a re-allocated quota spot in the women’s 3000m.  Roisin has been in great form lately, breaking the Irish indoor two mile record.  She is based in the USA still, after having competed there for Adams State University.  She trains with twin sister Eilish and is coached by Daemon Martin.
