Remembering Jim Gracey: A cherished friend, colleague and champion of women’s sport

Today, we are heartbroken to share the news of the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Jim Gracey.

Jim was the editor of Local Women Sport and the driving force behind its success. A former Sports Editor of the Belfast Telegraph, he brought a lifetime of experience, incredible talent and an unwavering passion for women’s sport.

From the very beginning, he helped build Local Women Sport into the only dedicated platform celebrating women’s sport across Northern Ireland and the island of Ireland.

His leadership, generosity and encouragement opened doors for so many athletes and ensured countless women and girls received the recognition they deserved.

But to us, Jim was so much more than an outstanding journalist. He was a trusted colleague, a loyal friend and a cherished part of the Local Women family. He brought wisdom, warmth, kindness and humour to everything he did, and he made every day better simply by being part of it.

Many of you will also know Jim through the wonderful restaurant reviews he shared with his beloved wife, Paula, each month. They became a favourite with our readers and reflected the warmth and joy they brought wherever they went.

We are devastated by his loss. Our love and deepest condolences are with Paula, Jim’s family and everyone who knew and loved him.

Thank you, Jim, for believing in us, for everything you gave to Local Women, and for your friendship.

You will always be part of the Local Women family. Rest in peace.
