BY LEE MAGINNIS

MEGAN Davies, from Sale Harriers, won the women’s Armagh International 3K road race on Thursday night with a time of 9:19, Cardiff AC’s Cari Hughes’ late sprint taking second in the same time.

Last year’s winner Alex Bell was fading but held on for bronze in 9:21.

NI and Ulster women did well with local Armagh AC’s Fionnuala Ross (now Scotland based) finishing ninth in 9:27 and Nakita Burke (Letterkenny AC) in 15th, recording 9:34 and first in the F35 age-group.

Niamh Carr, now competing for Edinburgh University, finished 25th.

In 27th place, but first Junior, was the amazing Anna Gardiner with a time of 9:44. Anna had just won the Ulster Schools Cross Country the day before, an incredible feat to recover and race again in such a short time.  Anna runs for East Down AC and is headed to the USA later this year on a scholarship.

Enniskillen’s Edel Monaghan was 32nd with a time of 9:45 and Annadale Strider’s Hannah Gilliland was 43rd in 9:53.

In 47th was Rebecca Rossiter, Catherine O’Connor finished 51st, Roise Roberts 55th, Eimear McCarroll 59th and young Willowfield Temperance Harriers star Emer McKee 60th in 10:04.

Kirsti Foster of Willowfield was 64th, Dearbhla Cox (Annadale Striders) 65th and Lucy Foster (sister of Kirsti) 67th.
