Alyssa Jebb goal run continues as Queen’s edge closer to Premier League title coronation

QUEEN’S University have one hand on the Legacy Ulster Women’s Premier League title after beating Omagh 5-1 in the latest round of fixtures.

The win means the students now require just two more points to guarantee their status as league champions.

League top scorer Alyssa Jebb opened the scoring in the second quarter when her reversed effort picked out the bottom corner, but the lead wouldn’t last for long as the visitors found an equaliser from a short corner.

However, it proved to be a consolation effort as Jodie Simmons scored her sixth of the season to restore the lead and make it 2-1.

Megan Cochrane made it three before Jebb got her second of the game and 17th of the campaign to take the result beyond doubt.

But it was Ellie Edwards who completed the scoring as she got a deft touch on a ball into the circle to deflect it goal-bound and seal a 5-1 win.

Elsewhere Lisnagarvey beat bottom of the table Armagh 2-0 at Comber Road.

Two strikes from Beth Ravey gave the side all three points with the win seeing her side climb above Belfast Harlequins to fifth in the table.

The result means Armagh are now unable to reach a guaranteed safety spot with a relegation playoff now the highest they can finish.

The final game in the division saw Portadown beat an in-form Ballymoney 5-2 away from home.

The win sees the County Armagh side leapfrog Lurgan in the table to take third spot, but having played a game more.

Ballymoney suffered defeat for just the second time in their last six games and remain seventh in the table, four points ahead of Banbridge in eighth.
