Away day victories for Belfast Harlequins and Lurgan in All Ireland hockey league

BELFAST Harlequins and Lurgan recorded impressive away wins in their weekend EY All Ireland hockey league games.

In Pool A, Harlequins’ long journey to Kilkenny proved profitable in a 3-1 win. Emma Fraser opened the scoring for Quins with a penalty corner in the ninth minute and in the 12th minute dispatched a penalty stroke into the net to make it 2-0. Katie Larmour captained the side and led by example, scoring a converted penalty corner in the 46th minute to leave the visitors 3-0 ahead. Sara Browne netted a consolation goal for the Kilkenny women from open play in the 56th minute.

Also in Pool A, Cork Harlequins defeated Avoca 3-0.

In Pool B, Ulster Women’s Premier League side Lurgan travelled to Donnybrook in South Dublin and returned with maximum points from a comfortable 2-0 win. Chloe McCann opened the scoring for the Co Armagh women in the 32nd minute with a converted penalty corner and Lydia McNeill made the win safe in the 37th minute with the second goal of the game from open play.

Elsewhere in Pool B, UC Cork were emphatic 6-0 away winners over Galway University/
