Sports Direct Women’s Premiership round-up… Gr-eight Glens power on at the top as Blues and Reds keep up hot pursuit

THE top three in the Sports Direct Women’s Premiership kept powering on with victories on Friday evening.

Leaders Glentoran Women hit eight goals without reply past Lisburn Ladies at the Blanchflower Stadium.

Aimee Kerr opened the scoring with just over a quarter-of-an-hour on the clock while the NI Football Writers Player of the Month Faye Loughran doubled up midway through the first half.

Emma McMaster added a third just before the half-hour mark, with Kascie Weir and a second for Kerr all coming before the break.

Emily Wilson continued the scoring not long after the interval, with Demi Vance and Sophie McKnight both adding to Glentoran’s tally later in the game.

Linfield Women fought back from two goals down to get the better of Lisburn Rangers, 3-2, at Crewe Park.

Abbie Smyth edged Rangers in front towards the end of the first half, while Ellie-Mae Dickson doubled their advantage just before the hour.

However, the Blues hit back with two goals in quick succession from Eve Reilly and Megan Bell with just over a quarter-of-an-hour remaining.

Then, in stoppage time, Reilly struck again to secure what at one point looked like would be an unlikely three points for the visitors.

Meanwhile, Cliftonville Ladies defeated Derry City Women 3-0 at Solitude. The Reds moved in front right at the end of the first half after Katie Markey found Marissa Callaghan on the wing – and she curled a high shot over the City keeper to open the scoring.

It was 2-0 early in the second half when Callaghan combined with Kelsie Burrows for the latter to fire into the roof of the net.

Then, on 73 minutes, Aoibhe O’Neill completed the scoring with a coolly converted spot-kick to the left of the keeper.

The action continues on Monday night when Larne Women welcome Crusaders Strikers to Inver Park (kick-off 7:45pm) while Cliftonville host Lisburn Ladies (8.00pm)
